BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Some local children in the Boston area are going on adventures in the Boston Harbor, for free.

This is all part of a larger free program organized by Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, happening for part of this month.

The kids on the program will be able to do it all, from getting a taste of history, or learning how to fish, all while out on the open water.

“We’re excited to basically do everything,” one of the kids said.

David Coffin is the man behind the program, and it is one that he has been leading for 25 years.

“So, every day, we have multiple different groups, and I challenge [the kids] to do something you’ve never done before,” Coffin said.

Coffin also told WBZ NewsRadio that the harbor itself has come a long way since it was a mostly dirt parking lot.

“The harbor is now so clean. It’s a destination, people know [that] it's not something to avoid anymore.”

The tours run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through Aug. 23.
