GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Season 13 is the last season of Wicked Tuna, a National Geographic docuseries based in Gloucester.

Premiered in 2012, Wicked Tuna followed commercial fishermen in one of the oldest seaports in the country as they competed to fish the elusive blue fin tuna. Many local residents of the city said they were sad to see it go.

“I loved the show,” Rich told WBZ NewsRadio. “I think it’s good for the city, good for everybody. You know, get some people coming here, and it’s too bad its going." He started watching the show since the first season.

The show definitely put the coastal town on the map. Throughout the 12 years, Wicked Tuna has brought fans and tourists to the place where it all happened. For Joy, that's one of the downside to the show's popularity. “There's just too many people around,” she told WBZ NewsRadio.

The announcement of the show's cancellation came as Disney, the parent company of Nat-Geo, made some devastating cost cutting decisions.

Captain Dave Marciano, a fan favorite cast member, thanked fans online for their support and love for the show throughout the 13 seasons.

“Thank you to everyone who followed,” Marciano wrote on X. “You all made it possible… We will always be grateful.”

The last episode of Wicked Tuna aired in May.
