For six weeks in the summer of 2014, Market Basket customers and employees rallied for CEO Arthur T. Demoulas, who was fired by the board in favor of his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas.

What followed was a two-month standoff between the two cousins surrounding the future of the family-run business, which resulted in empty store shelves and weeks of boycotts by customers.

Although these events happened ten years ago, some remember the events vividly.

“Yeah, it was kind of sad, greedy,” one customer said.

“A lot of people scrambling, [trying] to find lower prices, and concerned about Market Basket not coming back,” said another customer.

The standoff resulted in a 1.6-billion-dollar deal by Arthur T. Demoulas to regain control of the franchise, keeping the stores up and running.

Market Basket posted a video to X this week thanking customers and employees for always having their back and helping them move forward.
