Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold suffered a bruise, but no structural damage, to his left knee during Sunday's (September 22) 34-7 win against the Houston Texans, head coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed to reporters on Monday (September 23) via ESPN's Kevin Seifert.

Darnold, 27, underwent tests on Monday and isn't expected to miss any time due to injuries, according to O'Connell.

"It's a little sore, but hoping Sam can have a normal week of preparation as we go through it," O'Connell said via ESPN.

Darnold took a hit from longtime former Vikings pass rusher Danielle Hunter -- which was penalized 15 yards as a low hit to the quarterback -- and fell awkwardly, appearing to have suffered a leg injury before walking off the field on his own accord. Backup Nick Mullens handed the ball off on one play before Darnold jogged back onto the field.

Darnold, who signed a one-year deal to join the Vikings this offseason, has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 NFL season. The former No. 3 overall pick currently leads all NFL quarterbacks with eight touchdown passes, finishing Sunday's game with 181 yards and four touchdowns on 17 of 28 passing, while leading the Vikings to a 3-0 start.

Minnesota will face the Green Bay Packers in their first of two annual NFC North Division matchups on Sunday (September 29).
