BEVERLY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Cabot Theater in Beverly has planned a major renovation project.

The proposed plan will give the building’s exterior a facelift and replace the 1960s era marquee which has adorned the front of the building for years. The Cabot first opened in 1920.

“[It’s] a very exciting project, we’re renovating the facade and we’re going to bring the theater back to the original look it had back in 1920,” said Diane Manahan, Manager of Theater Rentals & Volunteer Recruitment at the Cabot.

Manahan also told WBZ NewsRadio that the process has been carefully planned out by the theater to provide the necessary touch-ups while also maintaining the venue’s historic charm.

“We’re trying to give everyone the modern conveniences that we all want but [focus on] maintaining the beauty of the space," Manahan added.

She also said that the renovations that the theater has been able to complete over the years have made “such a difference” in preserving the integrity of the building.

The Cabot initially opened at the end of the 1918 flu pandemic as a movie theater and is seeing another resurgence coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2024.

“We have so many great concerts coming up and [the theater] is just such a gem to have here in Beverly,” Manahan added.
