SOUTH WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Families with babies in the South Shore Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and nursery got into the Halloween spirit this week.

From pumpkins to superheroes, NICU and nursery infants donned their first costume for their first Halloween.

Project Sweet Peas New England, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting families with infants in the NICU, donated the Halloween costumes so families could still have the opportunity to create special memories with their children.

Parents picked out the costumes for their little ones and nurses helped dress them up.

Recently, South Shore Health’s West Unit received a $5.3 million donation to expand its short-stay unit bed capacity. The expansion aims to double the unit’s bed space from 10 to 20 beds, which will help create more critical emergency care beds for more patients.
