The Atlanta Braves have reportedly traded outfielder Jorge Soler to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for right-hander Griffin Channing, sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Thursday (October 31), hours after the conclusion of the 2024 World Series.
"And so the offseason begins: The Atlanta Braves are trading outfielder Jorge Soler to the Los Angeles Angels, a source tells ESPN," Passan wrote on his X account. "The Atlanta Braves will receive right-hander Griffin Canning from the Los Angeles Angels in the trade for Jorge Soler, sources tell ESPN. As the Soler deal illustrates, the hot stove is alive [about 15] hours after the Dodgers won the World Series. The GM meetings are next week. Free agency begins soon. Fun time for baseball. And @ByRobertMurray was on top of the news with Soler moving to the Angels."
Soler, 32, a Cuban native hit for a .241 average with 21 home runs and 64 RBIs, ranking fourth in doubles (34) and 10th in walks (68) among outfielders during the 2024 season. The 2023 All-Star signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the San Francisco Giants during the offseason, but was traded to the Braves in July.
Soler had previously been traded to Atlanta midway through the 2021 season, which resulted in the franchise winning its fourth World Series. The 32-year-old also had major league stints with the Chicago Cubs (2014-16), Kansas City Royals (2017-2021) and Miami Marlins (2022-2023).
