The Chicago Bears have reportedly fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Tuesday (November 12).
Passing game coordinator Thomas Brown is reportedly expected to take over as interim offensive coordinator, according to Pelissero.
"Sources: Shane Waldron is out as #Bears offensive coordinator. Thomas Brown is expected to take over," Pelissero wrote on his X account. "Meetings went throughout the day Monday and there were scenarios discussed where Shane Waldron would stay. In the end, he's out and Thomas Brown is in."
The Bears are currently facing a three-game losing streak, which includes a 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday (November 10) in which No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams was sacked nine times.
Brown, a former NFL running back with the Atlanta Falcons (2008) and Cleveland Browns (2009-10), previously worked as an offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers last season, as well as the University of Miami (FL) from 2016 to 2018, while also serving various assistant head coaching and position roles with the Los Angeles Rams from 2020 to 2022, including the franchise's Super Bowl LVI winning season in 2021.
"Thomas Brown, the onetime NFL running back, has interviewed for several head coaching jobs and was the #Panthers' offensive coordinator in 2023. Now, the firing of Shane Waldron opens a big opportunity for him to get Caleb Williams rolling in Chicago," Pelissero wrote.
The Bears will host the NFC North Division rival Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field on Sunday (November 17).
