BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Many of those who are using X (formerly known as Twitter), are abandoning the social media platform after the 2024 election.
Owner Elon Musk’s recent partnership with President-Elect Donald Trump is said to be a motivating factor for the switch.
The day after the election saw the biggest loss of users since Musk had bought the platform in 2022. Many users have left for other social platforms like Bluesky and Threads.
WBZ NewsRadio asked Boston residents if they plan to leave X.
“I plan to stay on it, I believe in free speech, and there’s no reason to leave it in my opinion,” local Kyle said.

“I don’t think that’s going to make any difference, Jerry, who doesn’t have X, said. Just because it’s new media, doesn’t mean it’s going to be any different.” “I never had Twitter, but I’d be long gone by now,” one Boston resident said. “Elon Musk is not my favorite person in the world. I’m not really happy about his relationship with Trump right now either.”
“I think if you don’t like it, you have the right to go somewhere else,” said another.
“I think that they will be flocking back, they’ll be going back to something that’s been proven, that works,” argued another.
Bluesky said on Thursday the platform had gained more than a million users in one day. Threads said it now has more than 275 million active users.
