BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — For the 16th year in a row, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will offer family-friendly guided hikes on Black Friday, free of charge. The guided hikes will take place across six DCR parks and will be between one and five miles.

The parks include Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park in Blackstone, Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, Borderland State Park in North Easton, Great Falls Discovery Center in Turner Falls, Lawrence Heritage State Park in Lawrence, and Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in East Falmouth.

There are also a number of self-guided hikes.

“Participating in our ‘Go Green on Black Friday’ hikes is a great way to step away from the holiday rush, reconnect with nature, and foster a sense of shared environmental stewardship,” DCR Commissioner Brian Arrigo said.

The DCR recommends that hikers dress appropriately for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Parking at Mass. DCR parks on Friday will be free, and participants are encouraged to check with DCR staff to confirm whether a hike will be happening in the event of inclement weather.

Additional details on the hikes can be found on DCR’s website.
