BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Governor Maura Healey has ordered U.S. flags and Massachusetts state flags to be flown at half-staff at all state government buildings until Jan. 28, 2025, to honor former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 100.
“President Carter lived a life dedicated to peace, human rights, democracy, and moral clarity,” Healey said in a statement. “He set an enduring example of what it means to serve others, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”
A state funeral for former President Carter will be held in Washington D.C. on Jan. 9.
President Biden has declared Jan. 9 as a National Day of Mourning for Carter.
Jimmy Carter served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977-1981.
