Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft in a video shared on his social media accounts Wednesday (January 15).
"My entire life I have dreamed about playing football on the forty acres," Ewers said in the video. These past three years have been some of the best years that I could have imagined. The relationships that I've built with coaches and teammates will last forever.
"I'm truly thankful for the opportunity to play football in the home state and the best university in the world. With prayer and careful consideration, I'm officially declaring for the NFL draft."
Ewers, 21, transferred from Ohio State in 2022 after ranking as the consensus No. 1 prospect for the 2021 national recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite. The Texas native led the Longhorns to an immediate turnaround from a 5-7 season, going 27-9 as a starter in three seasons, which included back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances in 2023 and 2024, while throwing for 9,128 yards, 68 touchdowns and 24 interceptions on 737 of 1,135 passing.
Ewers projects as the consensus No. 4 quarterback and No. 51 overall prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft, according to NFL Mock Draft Database. The veteran quarterback's departure opens the door for redshirt freshman Arch Manning to takeover as the team's starter in 2025.
Manning, 19, the son of Cooper Manning, nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning and grandson of Archie Manning, started in two games during his redshirt freshman season in the absence of Ewers, who was dealing with an oblique injury at the time and ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect for the 2023 national recruiting cycle.
