BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — An ill-timed, quick-moving storm made for an interesting Thursday for Boston commuters.

A winter weather advisory continues through 7 p.m. today as earlier snow turns into sleet and freezing rain this afternoon. That mixture will end with a bit of rain and drizzle this evening. At 1 p.m., the National Weather Service reported than less than 1 inch of snow had accumulated in Boston. But, you might want to tread cautiously because untreated surfaces can be quite slippery.

Patches of drizzle will linger early into tonight, clearing later.

Friday will be partly sunny with gusty, cold wind. Temperatures will stay relatively steady in the mid to upper 30s.

Looking forward to the weekend, a major winter storm is expected to bring at least several inches of snow to the area Saturday night into Sunday, causing travel delays. Expected accumulation varies, dependent on the track of the storm.
