NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) A celebration of life will be held for a local skater and his mother this weekend, after the two lost their lives in a plane crash last month.

Teenage figure skater Spencer Lane, of Barrington, Rhode Island, was a member of The Skating Club of Boston in Norwood.

He and his mother, Christine, were on their way back from a skating workshop in Wichita, Kansas when their plane was hit by an army helicopter near Washington, D.C. on Jan. 29. There were no survivors.

Lane and his mother will be remembered Sunday at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence.

Doug Zeghibe, CEO of The Skating Club of Boston, described Lane as a crazy kid, "in the best way possible", and "incredibly talented."

The Skating Club of Boston also lost two coaches, Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, and teenager skater Jinna Han and her mother, Jin, in the plane crash.

WBZ’s Chaiel Schaffel (@CSchaffelWBZ) reports.
