BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) It’s been a wet month, but the weather will be kind to runners and spectators on Marathon Monday.

Boston can expect cool temperatures Monday with a high of 57 degrees and cloudy conditions with some sun, according to the AccuWeather forecast.

“It’s perfect, that’s like ideal running conditions,” said one former runner in the Boston Marathon. “I’ve experienced a wet marathon here, and let me tell you, it's difficult.”

Rain has hit the Boston Marathon plenty of times, most recently in 2018. Temperatures were also in the upper 30s and low 40s that day, according to the Boston Athletic Association

Too much sun and heat isn’t a good thing either. The temperature hit 87 degrees in Boston and 89 in Framingham during the marathon in 2012, according to the BAA.

Bridget Chamberlain from Chicago is running the Boston Marathon for the first time, and she said she’s run in marathons with bad conditions in the past.

“Honestly, [there’s] added nerves because when there’s bad weather it’s like — if it's not an A-plus day there’s a reason,” Chamberlain said.

Lots of residents said the good weather feels like a reward for getting through some tough winter months.

“It’s what we’ve been waiting for, I feel like,” said one local resident. “In Boston, we get punished through the winter.”

Beyond that, Bostonian Omawali Stewart said the good weather this year could have an even greater meaning.

“It’s just emblematic of our resilience,” Stewart said.
