WATERTOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) The Target store in Watertown is making sure some new feathery visitors stay safe.

A pair of geese set up shop outside the store about three weeks ago to lay their eggs, and about two weeks later, the store created a DIY protective barrier.

“I think it's kind of cool that they took it in their own hands to just put up a barrier and save this goose,” said Alec, a shopper from Waltham. “You don’t want somebody to go and kick the nest or something like that.”

The barrier around the patch of dirt includes orange fencing, shopping carts, traffic cones and a sign that reads “Beware of Geese!” Someone also set up a bucket of water next to the mother goose.

The set up is also to keep the animals away from customers. Staff said the father goose can get aggressive if people get too close.

“They can be annoying I know, and some people don’t like them, but they’re animals, and hey — we all have to live on the planet,” said Susan, another shopper at the Target.
