BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston’s annual pride parade is happening this Saturday, along with a “No Kings” protest against the Trump administration.
The No Kings protests are happening all around the country that day, coinciding with the military parade in Washington to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Army.
The No Kings theme was created by 50501, an organization that describes itself as being made up of everyday Americans that stand against the administration’s “authoritarian” actions. 50501 stands for 50 states, 50 protests and one movement.
Organizers of the Boston No Kings protest want the event to go hand in hand with Boston Pride For The People — hence the name “No Kings, but Yaaas Queen!”
“We call on all freedom-loving people in Massachusetts to come support a parade dedicated to the resilience of our community at Boston Pride for the People. Bring your Pride flags and signs showing steadfast support for LGBTQIA+ rights and protesting the tyranny of a fascist administration that seeks to erase our communities from public life, American history, and our nation’s future,” Mass 50501’s website reads.
Boston’s pride parade usually brings about a million people, but the joint event is expected to bring up to a million and a half people to the city, according to Rebecca Winter Mass 50501.
“President Trump is really positioning himself more as a king or a dictator, and we are a democratic republic. We are going to see that our checks and balances stay in place,” Winter said.
Winter also said the No Kings movement encourages peaceful protests only, and no violence will be tolerated.
“Violence is not the answer. Coming together in solidarity and nonviolently using our first amendment rights is the answer,” Winter said.
The parade and protest starts at 11 a.m. Multiple other pride events are happening throughout the day, including a festival and block party.
