BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Amtrak's new NextGen Acela trains have hit the tracks at Boston's South Station.

These new models go from South Station to Washington D.C. and New York City.

They are built with high-tech tilting technology, allowing for higher speeds and a smoother ride.

"This will allow it to go faster but also more comfortable for customers so you don't notice the tilting and the other thing is when you get inside, I think you'll really notice that the windows are bigger, there's more light," Roger Harris said, president of Amtrak.

Although these new trains do have a faster top speed at 160 miles per hour, the travel time is going to be similar for now.

"It's gonna be roughly the same," Harris said.

That will change in the future with schedule changes, along with multiple infrastructure projects in the works, according to Harris.

"We're just in the initial startup of the new train so we're gonna be tweaking the schedule over the next 12 months and it will be faster," Harris said.
