STOUGHTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — While golf simulators are all the rage, baseball batting simulators have been stepping up to the plate in Massachusetts.

D-Bat Metro South in Stoughton has combined traditional pitching and batting cages with state-of-the-art technology.

Baseball and softball players receive training and professional instruction for all levels of the game.

Cameron Phelts is Director of Baseball and Softball Operations at D-Bat.

He said D-Bat provides players with valuable insights they could never get at batting cages. "What the Hit-Trax does is measure launch angle, exit velo (velocity), and distance," he said.

Phelts said the technology D-Bat uses is similar to the kind used in golf simulators in that both provide players with a much deeper level of insight and data to help evaluate and improve individual performance.

The technology can be adjusted for different levels of ability.

Phelts said that another fun feature of the D-Bat simulator is that it allows a player to choose a favorite stadium to play in. "Fenway is the most popular, for sure, and rightfully so," he said.

Another big difference between D-Bat technology and batting cages... batters can see where their hits go. "They get the visual feedback, and they can also test out a new bat and see what kind of velo they are putting out," Phelts said.

And if a D-Bat hitter has enough coordination and strength, maybe they generate enough exit velo and launch angle to jack one over Fenway's Green Monster.
