3-Year-Old Norwood Boy Falls Out Of Window

NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – A three-year old Norwood boy is recovering at Children’s Hospital after falling from a third story home while he was left home alone.

Police say witnesses saw the boy fall to the pavement about 3 p.m. Tuesday. Emergency response teams rushed to the scene at Washington and Dean Streets.

The boy was conscious and suffered only lacerations.

"Apparently he had been in the care of his grandmother,” Norwood Police Chief William Brooks told WBZ-TV. “He had fallen asleep. The grandmother had other kids to go pick up at school. She was only going to be gone a short time. She thought he’d never wake up. She went down the street to pick up the other kids.”

Police say unfortunately this is the kind of accident that happens every summer.

“Sometimes people don’t like to put bars on the windows but if you’ve got little kids and you don’t have air conditioning and you’re going to open the windows and put in a fan, you ought to think about that,” Chief Brooks said.

The Department of Children and Families was notified and is investigating.
