BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Animal Rescue League of Boston has taken in 34 beagles who came from an overcrowding situation in Franklin County.
ARL is now caring for 10 of the dogs.
The others have been taken in by organizations in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.
The owners of the beagles surrendered the dogs, and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, ARL said the dogs range in age up to 8 years, are friendly, and appear to be well fed.
The dogs are all named after bagels; Everything, Blueberry, Poppy, etc.
ARL said it is providing compassionate love and care for the dogs, three males and seven females.
ARL is also providing medical care at its Boston Animal Care & Adoption Center, where a new state-of-the-art facility is being built that will allow ARL to care for more animals in these types of situations.
It said overcrowding is a condition that can lead to serious health concerns for the animals and the people living in those conditions.
A sudden influx of animals such as this one strains ARL's resources.
ARL is asking the public for assistance to provide the care and support these animals need by making a donation.
ARL said the beagles will be put up for adoption when they are ready.
