HINGHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The long and winding stretch of 3A in Hingham is one step closer to getting a multi-million dollar facelift.

Earlier this week, the Hingham Select Board advanced a $35 million redevelopment project for the road, which will largely be paid for with state and federal funds.

For years, residents have wanted the road to be safer and pedestrian accessible, while also showcasing the view of Hingham Harbor.

Nancy, a longtime resident of Hingham, has attended many town meetings to discuss concerns over the road. She said that right now the daily commute is tight and troublesome.

"Trucks and a lot of traffic coming through, so you know it took a few minutes," she said.

Another local resident told WBZ NewsRadio that the road could be "dangerous for the kids that have to walk through."
