REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Revere Mayor Patrick Keefe could not have been happier seeing 420 tons of sand get dropped off at Revere Beach Thursday.

"This is like Santa Claus. This is Christmas in July for us," Keefe told WBZ NewsRadio.

The special, sandy delivery was ahead of next weekend's International Sand Sculpting Festival.

In its twentieth year, the festival brings 15 of the world's best sand sculptors to America's oldest public beach to show off their unique talent.

"The secret, really, is to come down Wednesday and Thursday, and you’re watching the sand sculptors put together these unbelievable artistic interpretations of what they want to put out," Keefe said.

The festival also features more than 75 food vendors, food trucks, and exhibitors, live music, amusement rides, and fireworks.

Keefe said the yearly event is a popular attraction for people near and far.

"Well not only do we have artists from all over the world, but we definitely see visitors from every corner of the Earth," said Keefe.

The festival runs from Friday, July 19 to Sunday, July 21.
