BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Police Department said it hopes its officers will someday be able to reflect upon a photo taken this weekend with a 5-year-old boy after a Peace Walk in Dorchester.
The BPD's "Photo of the Day" Saturday featured Dwayne, age 5, alongside BPD Community Service Officer Sgt. Brian Dunford. The two had just finished walking the annual 3-mile Peace Walk along Washington Street with neighbors and parishioners of The Deliverance Shiloh Apostolic Church.
"Following the conclusion of the three mile walk, young Dwayne ... who had walked the entire route, spoke to the officers at length about his goals and future plans," BPD said. "In these days of necessary safety precautions, such as social distancing and mask wearing, the young man was concerned that the officers might not recognize him years from now when he achieves his dream of becoming a Boston Police Officer."
With Dwayne's concerns in mind, BPD said the officers allowed their new recruit to briefly lower his mask to take a photo, "for posterity’s sake."
"The officers will hopefully be able to reflect upon [this photo] someday when Dwayne is sworn in to stand alongside us protecting and serving the citizens of our fine city," BPD added.
