HAVERHILL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An 83-year-old man is accused of murdering his roommate at the Oxford Rehabilitation and Health Center in Haverhill on Sunday.

Jose Veguilla was arraigned at Haverhill District Court on Monday, where he was ordered held without bail.

According to Assistant Essex District Attorney John DePaulo, Veguilla swung his walker at the head of 76-year-old Robert Boucher, and then allegedly also swung the walker at a nurse who had just come into the room.

"When Haverhill Police arrived, Veguilla was found in a common area, swinging the walker at anyone who attempted to get near him," the Essex District Attorney's Office said in a statement.

Broucher was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Veguilla is due back in court on October 25.
