8th Death Traced To Remote Wedding In Maine

MILLINOCKET, Maine. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Another death has been linked to a COVID-19 outbreak that started at a wedding in a remote part of Maine last month.

According to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the eighth death traced to the wedding is a man in his 80s from Somerset County.

On August 7th, 62 guests gathered for the occasion at the Big Moose Inn in Millinocket, and everyone had their temperatures taken prior to entering the reception. But the next day, one guest started feeling ill.

Since then, more than 270 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have since been traced to the wedding, including an outbreak at a nursing home more than 100 miles away, and a cluster of cases in a jail more than 200 miles away.

Maine CDC said seven of the eight deaths traced to the wedding were reported at the Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center in Madison.
