BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Boston Police officer is shot in the arm after a brief foot chase on Friday morning.
The shooting took place after officers noticed a group of “suspicious” individuals loitering in a park on Dudley St. in Roxbury around 12:45 a.m.
When the officers approached the group, they say that one man ran away.
Officers chased the suspect to Kenilworth St. and say that’s when the man shot at them.
One police officer, who isn’t being named, was struck in the arm and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers returned fire and shot the suspect several times and then arrested him.
The suspect also has non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a separate hospital from the shot officer, according to Boston Police Sergeant Detective John Boyle.
“[This is] another reminder of the kinds of risks that our officers face 24 hours a day and I’m very proud and grateful every day for their service,” said Boston Mayor Michelle Wu later at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
