NORTH READING, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The senior prom at the Hillview Country Club in North Reading was not attended by high school students on the verge of graduation.
Instead, Wednesday's event was for senior citizens, with anyone aged 60 and older able to get in for free.
"Everyone is walking down the red carpet right now, ready to enjoy a nice dinner and dance on the dance floor," said Kim Manzelli, director of the Edith A. O’Leary Senior Center, which organized the prom.
Funding was secured through the generosity of local patrons wanting to honor their elderly neighbors.
"We’re just thrilled in North Reading to have the community come together," Manzelli said. "Local businesses and residents have sponsored this event to show how our seniors are valuable members of our community."
Attendees were all smiles as they ate, danced, wore sparkly tiaras, and took in the atmosphere.
"I think this is the best thing that ever happened in years and it couldn’t look any better, this is absolutely gorgeous," one woman said.
