CAMBRIDGE Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — It all started during the pandemic, an activity to pass the dreariness of isolation turned into something that stuck well beyond those tough days. At Studio by Garden Streets, they have dozens of D-I-Y and in-depth workshops for skill levels of all kinds to make everything from tote bags, soap, and even plant arrangements.
“A lot [of this] came from customers asking us if we had [various things] and we said oh that’s a great idea let’s do something with that,” said owner operator Jen Gouldstone.
There’s also the Kokedama Workshop there, which is the Japanese art of growing Greenery in a moss-covered ball wrapped in roots. She showed WBZ’s Jay Willett during his visit there how you can display it for all to see.
“You can hang it, or you can display it in a cute tray,” Gouldstone added.
The reason you may not have heard of this place is because it is tucked away at the top of the Cambridge-Side Shopping Center, and if you love it so much, staff say that working there is equally inspiring and rewarding.
“I don’t know, I just love bringing crafts to the community because you know we’ve never found something like this,” said an employee.
From tufting to candle making, to basket weaving, the split retail and workshop space keeps adding crafts to its list of requests by customers, so it’s clear that this is a business that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
