BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Local artists showed off their masterpieces at a special Art in the Park event along the Mary Ellen Greenway in East Boston Saturday.

Art in the Park is a free, outdoor event where neighbors can interact with various mediums of art on display along the pathway. It was organized by the East Boston Artist Group.

Kristen Freitas, the president of the group, told WBZ NewsRadio that this event is a great way for residents to connect with local artists on a more personal level.

“We’ve gotten a great response from the community,” she continued. “It’s just really great to get that one-on-one conversation in with your fellow neighbors about art and culture and East Boston.”

According to the group's website, the main theme and exhibition this year is called "The Thinking Path," and it's "inspired by the idea that walking stimulates creativity, the exhibition takes its name from the daily walking route of Charles Darwin, who used his time outdoors to generate ideas and reflect."

The East Boston Artist Groups has over 50 artists and over 20 artists sold their work at the event.

In addition, the event also includes live performances and other family-friendly activities.
