BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A local man at Boston’s Long Wharf is keeping the legacy of sea shanties alive and well for future generations.
Those who are looking to learn the art of singing a good ole sea shanty should look no further than Boston’s own David Coffin.
"These are the songs that established the rhythm to get the job done, you know, no engines, no motors, it's all manual labor," Coffin said.
Coffin is the Manager of Narration for Boston Harbor City Cruises. When he’s not using his lungs to share the history of Boston’s Harbor, you can find him belting out classic sea shanties in person down by the harbor, or on TikTok, where he has over 237,000 followers on the platform.
“There’s a whole new generation of people learning about sea shanties which is awesome. I thought what’s it like to have sea shanties popular again, and truth is they’ve always been popular, people just didn’t know it,” Coffin told WBZ NewsRadio.
