BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The U.S.S. Oscar Austin, an active U.S. naval destroyer ship is offering free tours for patrons in honor of Navy Week, which is being observed in Boston July 1-7.

The tours on the Fourth of July are a part of the 2024 Boston Harborfest, an annual tradition that celebrates "Boston's maritime and revolutionary history," according to the event's website.

Anthony works by the harbor and told WBZ NewsRadio he finds the U.S.S. Oscar Austin impressive.

Anthony works near Black Falcon Pier, where the ship is docked. “It’s pretty cool seeing the boats coming in and out of the port over there. It’s nice to see that they can display that we still have ships like that in our Navy [that] are still accessible [for] the public to go and see,” he said.

Matthew also works near the dock and told WBZ NewsRadio that they think the presence of these ships offers a unique opportunity for locals and visitors.

“I think it’s good. I mean, a lot of people... they ask about it," he said.

The U.S.S. Constitution is also participating in Navy Week, with family friendly events planned through Sunday.
