BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new poll highlights Bostonians’ opinions on issues surrounding housing in the city, with an overwhelming majority of people saying that more homes need to be built.

The poll conducted by Abundant Housing Massachusetts and MassINC Polling Group found that 81% of people say that city officials need to take action in order to address a lack of affordable housing.

The same percentage of people also said they would support the goal of building 30,000 more homes in the city to help combat this issue.

“They need to build more, they need to do more, they need to bring down the pricing for blue collar workers,” said one Boston resident.

However, another resident pointed out the difficulty of building more housing due in large part to the state’s slowing construction labor force and a challenging financial climate.

“It’s underfunded, they need to make more of an investment to try and help families because the cost of living is significantly high,” she said.

The city of Boston currently ranks as one of the top cities with the most expensive cost of living in the United States, according to various reports.

In terms of housing affordability, the poll found that 43% of people say that the city is doing a “poor” job on the matter, while only 17% said the city was doing a “good” job.

“There needs to be more options for people who aren’t making $80,000 plus and aren’t on government benefits,” said one man.
