BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new pop-up cafe is bringing nightlife culture to Boston City Hall.

The Night Cap Cafe is set up in the lobby of the building, featuring funky furniture and decor.

“This idea kind of came from a dream,” said Matt Myers, creator behind the cafe.

He said 100 to 150 people have been showing up every night, and that the unusual setting is intriguing to many.

“We’ve been getting a lot of pretty good feedback like ‘Where am I? I’m usually paying parking tickets in here.’”

The nine-day pop-up was advertised by flyers.

Corean Reynolds, director of nightlife economy for the city of Boston, helped Myers create Night Cap Cafe. She said the cafe is a “third space that people yearn for,” full of “belonging and community building.”

The cafe promotes events like live house music, stand-up comedy and queer speed dating. Wine was served Wednesday night, but usually the only drink visitors are sipping on is coffee.

“As an artist or creative myself, I always just love sitting at a cafe at night just with a cup of coffee, working on a project,” Meyers said.

The cafe’s hours are 6 p.m. to 11 p.m, running Tuesday through Thursday for the first three weeks of November. It’s wrapping up on Thursday, Nov. 21 with a night market and a pajama party.

“It really is different every single night. There’s something to explore, there’s someone to meet who you may not cross paths with on a daily basis, and that's the beauty of it,” Reynolds said. “We are bringing all corners of the city together.”
