LYNNFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Lynnfield’s town square is lined with purple ribbons to bring attention to the grief that many have felt because of the plague of addiction.

This is part of the town’s observation of National Recovery Month.

The ribbons were put up by the non-profit group “Think of Michael,” which was started by the family of Michael Dalton who passed away 5 years ago from a drug overdose. Michael’s brother Jamie hopes their efforts can help prevent another family from having to deal with such a loss.

“We started it after my brother passed and we primarily do sober house scholarships for people transitioning from residential programs into sober living," Jamie said.

They have also helped to organize a “Night of Hope” to let the community know that there is help out there for those struggling with addiction. The event will be this Sunday evening, Sept. 17, at the Lynnfield Middle School.
