HALIFAX, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A former chef, Joe Ethier of Halifax, wanted to make the perfect Nashville hot chicken sandwich, but he ran into a unique problem. It wasn't an issue with the chicken or bun, instead it was the topping ingredient, store-bought hot sauce, that didn't impress Ethier.

"The ones [hot sauce] on the shelf at the store- I'm really not a fan of," Ethier said to WBZ's Art Cohen.

So Ethier went and created his own sauce for the sandwich, where he quickly discovered how much people loved it. Now named "Sweet Mama Hot Sauce," Ethier said, "It's the perfect blend between sweet, spicy, and flavor- we use signature spice blends across all of our products, it builds flavor onto the dish as opposed to just blasting you with heat."

Since his more than 20 years working in a kitchen, Ethier said he missed seeing the reactions of people tasting his culinary creations. But with the Sweet Mama Hot Sauce gaining traction, those reactions return and to Ethier, he said "seeing it up close is something special."

The sauces come in three different selections, from mildest to hottest: Hots Mayo, Original Hot Sauce, and Black Label Hot Sauce.

According to their website, all sauces are Gluten-free. Most are vegan friendly apart from the Hots Mayo sauce.

Sweet Mama Hot Sauce is now available for online purchase via their new website.
