A Seal Spent The Day Sunbathing On Duxbury Beach

DUXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's been a beautiful sunny Sunday across the Commonwealth, with temperatures ranging from 54 degrees in Quincy to 57 degrees in Boston.

Scores of people took advantage of the break from winter by heading to the beaches. As it turns out, humans weren't the only ones who wanted to welcome the warmth by sunning themselves on the sand.

According to Duxbury Police Beach Operations, the south shore had an unexpected visitor this afternoon.

DPD said it has been receiving "non-stop phone calls regarding the seal," but they assured the public it is "normal" for them to come ashore to rest.

The department said it had notified New England Aquarium about the seal's location.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures over the weekend have been "unseasonably mild" with temperatures "5-10 degrees warmer than at this point yesterday."

The NWS Boston predicts another day in the 50's on Monday, so it's possible there will be more seal sightings ahead.

DPD is asking anyone who comes across the wild animals to keep at least 150 feet away at all times.
