BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It turns out the early bird does get the worm.

That's according to a new report from Triple A that analyzed the best, and worst times to fly during the summer months.

Among its findings compiled from 2025 data, it says the best time to book a flight for summer travel is early in the morning.

The report says flights scheduled to depart between 7-9 a.m. have the highest rate of being on schedule at 90% as opposed to 56% for flights that leave between 6-9 p.m.

That's good news for these early bird travelers we spoke to at Logan Airport on Tuesday morning who felt the data confirmed their preference to fly early. "I love it," one flyer said. "It just makes my day so much easier because I know now none of my other things are going to get pushed back."

Another flyer agreed, saying he likes knowing that when he leaves early, there's a better chance his travel won't hit any snags.

He also said there is a financial incentive to flying early. "I'll fly just because of flight availability," he said. "I fly stand-by, and so it's based off of open seats."

This flyer said she tries to make early reservations and spend as much time as she can at her destination, and less time traveling. "Going to Las Vegas and I want to spend as much time in the sun."

Some other travel data points: Triple A reports there's more chance of flight delays in the summer due to turbulence.

It also says flying on Sundays and Thursdays has the highest rate of delays and cancellations while flying Saturdays and Tuesday has the lowest rate.

Triple A reports more than 72 million Americans will fly over this upcoming July 4 holiday.
