WESTWOOD Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — AAA Northeast has issued an advisory to the New England region ahead of a Nor’easter storm that is expected to bring snow, rain and wind to the region. The AAA Northeast newsroom advises that people should be ready to adjust their travel plans, if necessary, especially in Northern New York and New England, where thousands of people are expected to travel to for the once in a lifetime solar eclipse on April 8.
The Federal Aviation Administration also expects this week to be the “busiest of the season” for air traffic, the combination of spring break travel and those heading to get the best view of the total solar eclipse will create some hectic skies and airports. It is anticipated that spring break travel will peak with 50,670 flights on Thursday and 48,904 flights on Friday. On Monday, the day of the eclipse will bring another busy travel day with 47,137 flights, according to AAA.
“As air travel returns to pre-pandemic levels and travelers flock to airports this week, weather is also likely to impact schedules,” said Mark Schieldrop, Senior Spokesperson for AAA Northeast. “Travelers should leave themselves plenty of time to get to the airport and consider parking ahead of time to avoid a last-minute scramble,” Schieldrop added.
AAA also advises those who are choosing to fly this week to sign up for text alerts from their airline and download the mobile app for both their airline and an alternative carrier. If a delay or cancellation occurs, an app offers the fastest way for travelers to rebook.
