BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — 2025 is expected to be a big year for the cruise industry.
According to AAA, 19 million Americans are projected to set sail on an ocean cruise this year, which would be a 4.5 percent increase from 2024. Nearly three-quarters of those travelers will head to the Caribbean where several countries have popular port destinations.
“The cruise industry has rebounded post-pandemic more strongly than other travel segments, with cruise demand growth exceeding hotel demand growth in the last two years,” said Mark Schieldrop of AAA Northeast.
The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) reported a record-breaking 480,000 passengers last year at Flynn Cruiseport Boston. The total number of cruise ships using the port also increased by 12 percent compared to 2023.
Boston is still significantly behind the world's biggest terminals in Miami, Port Canaveral, and Fort Lauderdale, which bring millions of passengers to Florida each year. With hopes of growing the industry even more in Boston, Massport announced a $100 million investment into Flynn Cruiseport in November.
