MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, ME (WBZ NewsRadio) — Acadia National Park in Maine is closed to visitors as of Thursday,
"The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, local communities, and partners at Acadia National Park is our number one priority," the park said in a press release. "The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic."
The Park Loop Road, restrooms, carriage roads, campgrounds, visitor centers, and visitor services are closed indefinitely. Services that "support resource protection" will be allowed to continue during the closure.
The National Park Service encourages people to still connect with Acadia through their YouTube page, Second Century Stewardship series, and webcams throughout the park.
