BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Talking while on speaker in public has been around for a while, but now video calling has entered the chat.

Many people have experienced unwanted conversations during their commutes, being forced to listen to the entire conversation someone is having on their phone.

WBZ’s James Rojas asked Boston residents if this is just a part of being out in public, or if is it just rude.

“I used to work at a clinic and part of my job was calling to give sensitive test results and people would be on speaker on the train,” said Jules. “I think that would probably be the most egregious one if I was sitting around that person.”

“I think a lot of people just get so deep into their conversation that they forget who’s around, but yeah,” said Christy from Cambridge. “I’ve heard some weird conversations or fights.”

“I think if the person is hard of hearing and it’s a very important conversation, I think it's fine,” said another Boston resident. “But if you’re just having a conversation to have a conversation it’s kind of rude.

“If you’re on speaker without headphones I do not like you very much,” said one resident not looking to be bothered. “I have no problem with people being on Facetime as long as I can’t hear it.”
