BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston City Hall has undergone some renovations making it more accessible to people with disabilities.
One of the improvements made is a new state-of-the-art vertical lift has been installed in City Hall’s lobby providing people with disabilities a way to get from the lower level up to the mezzanine area.
Mayor Michelle Wu said the new lift replaces the old one that was rickety with no handrails. “The old lift wasn’t safe for use,” she said. “The new lift tackles all the issues. It’s safer, more inclusive, and it can be operated independently.
Boston’s Disability Commissioner Kristin McCosh said the changes are helping to make City Hall, which is a public building, more accessible. “It’s really opening up access for people with disabilities to get to this space, which is a public space.”
