Accused Rapist Posing As Boston Rideshare Driver Charged In 9th Assault

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — An alleged serial rapist, accused of posing as rideshare driver in Boston to target women, was arraigned Wednesday on new charges related to a ninth victim.

Alvin Campbell, of Cumberland, R.I., has already been accused of raping eight other women. The new indictments charge him with three counts of rape and two counts of filming an unsuspecting nude person related to a ninth victim.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said that Campbell is accused of raping the previous eight women between 2017 and 2019, and posed as a rideshare driver in most of the offenses to allegedly "target women outside Boston establishments where alcohol is served."

District Attorney Rachael Rollins said that it is important to make sure that when we go out to bars and restaurants we “remain aware of our surroundings and speak out when we observe questionable or predatory behavior.”

“Women have every right to partake in and enjoy an evening out, to drink and to have fun without risk or fear of being harassed, violated or harmed. Men need to start speaking to their sons, their brothers and colleagues about the new vision of masculinity and working to end violence against women and girls,” Rollins said. “The allegations outlined in each of these cases are extremely disturbing, and the facts are strikingly similar in each of the nine attacks.”

As part of an ongoing investigation into the serial attacks, authorities uncovered video evidence that allegedly shows Campbell repeatedly raping an unconscious victim in June of 2018.

“My Office continues to be available to these nine brave women and to every survivor of sexual violence. We are committed to serving survivors of sexual assault with support, referrals for needed resources and services up to and including prosecutions to hold perpetrators accountable,” Rollins said.

Campbell is the brother of Boston City Councilor and mayoral candidate Andrea Campbell.
