BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Although autumn has just started, a new forecast from AccuWeather predicts much more snow for the upcoming winter season when compared to last winter’s totals.

The Boston area is looking to receive anywhere from 36 to 40 inches during this upcoming winter and if those predictions end up becoming reality that would mean Boston would earn about a foot more than last year’s 28 inches.

AccuWeather is also predicting that this winter will be sandwiched between two big storms, one predicted to occur early in the season while the other hits late in the season.

Boston residents were mixed with their reactions to the snowy predictions.

“A good snowstorm is kind of fun,” said one person.

“I’m more of a summer guy, [I like] beach weather,” said another.

These totals pale in comparison to those from the Midwest as one man points out, “I’m from Michigan, we have lake effect snow, so [we get] 100 inches of snow.”

Those monstrous numbers might evoke memories of the winter of 2014 to 2015 which saw Boston receive a historic 110.6 inches, a number much greater than these current predictions.

However, if this season’s snowfall ends up being on the higher end of predictions or even surpasses it that would put it around the average snowfall total for Boston, which is 49.2 inches (according to AccuWeather data collected from 1991-2020).

Whatever may happen with the snow totals this year one Bostonian hit the sentiment that many can agree with, “I’m born and raised here, you never know what you’re going to get.”
