Acting Boston Mayor Kim Janey Throws First Pitch At Red Sox Home Opener

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Acting Boston Mayor Kim Janey commemorated opening day at Fenway Park on Friday by throwing out the first pitch in the Red Sox's home opener game against the Baltimore Orioles.

The game came a day late after it was postponed because of heavy rain in the city on Thursday.

It is the first time fans have been allowed back in the stands at Fenway Park since the Covid-19 pandemic temporarily shut the sports season down last year.

The park is operating at 12 percent of it's normal capacity because of state guidelines to limit the spread of Covid-19. Seating arrangements are spread out to accommodate for social distancing and all fans are required to wear masks.

Concessions stands for food and drinks were opened to fans -- as they are encouraged to use contactless payment methods to further protect against the spread of the virus.
