BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Addiction Treatment Center of New England celebrated the opening of a new location on Commonwealth Avenue near Cleveland Circle on Tuesday.
The center is a non-profit outpatient clinic that has been substance-abuse patients with recovery for over 40 years. The expansion aims to increase access and remove barriers to treatment.
Local leaders and advocates attended the opening event, including former Mass. State Senator Steven Tolman, who the new location is dedicated to.
Tolman represented the Second Suffolk and Middlesex District from 1999 to 2011, which included the Brighton neighborhood. He has been a longtime labor leader and advocate for substance-abuse treatments for the community. While in office, Tolman penned several bills to further develop substance-abuse education and drug prevention services. He currently serves as president of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, a voluntary federation that help represent union workers.
At the event on Tuesday, Tolman said the center is a “safe haven” that provides essential services for those battling with addiction. “This house is a beacon of hope for many residents seeking a better way forward,” he continued.
Tolman added that while recovery is different for everyone, treatment centers can be an essential assistant during the journey. “This is not just a home,” he said. “It’s about fostering a community where individuals can heal, grow, and reclaim their lives. That’s what this is about.”
The new Addiction Treatment Center of New England treatment center is located at 1867 Commonwealth Ave. in Brighton.
