BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Aerosmith is postponing the remainder of its "Peace Out" farewell tour to 2024 after learning that lead singer Steven Tyler's vocal injury is "more serious than initially thought," the band announced Friday.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Aerosmith said Tyler's doctor "confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care. He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential."
"I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world," Tyler said in his own statement. "I promise we will be back as soon as we can!"
Earlier this month, Aerosmith postponed six dates on the tour due to Tyler's vocal injury. While the band initially hoped to return onstage by Oct. 11, their exact return date has yet to be determined. The band stated that all shows will be postponed to "sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more." They were scheduled to play TD Garden in Boston on New Year's Eve.
"All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates, and refunds will be available for those unable to attend once those dates are announced. Fans with questions regarding refunds should reach out to their point of purchase," the band said.
"Peace Out: The Farewell Tour," a celebration of Aerosmith's 50 years as a band and their final journey on the road, kicked off in Philadelphia on Sept. 2. Before the tour started, the band said in a statement that drummer Joey Kramer would not take part "to focus his full attention on his family and health."
