BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — African-American veterans were celebrated and remembered at a third annual appreciation brunch in Roxbury Saturday.
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh was in attendance and offered thanks.
One speaker at the event said that many of these veterans fought for American ideals and freedoms that they did not, and do not always, get to enjoy.
WBZ NewsRadio’s Karyn Regal spoke with Napoleon DePina, who joined the military before desegregation.
“Include everybody, of all colors, all nationalities. What have you just done? You’ve just brought them all together in one place for one reason — thanking them all,” DePina said. “Our leadership in this country, right at the present time, nonexistent.”
