GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Less than a month after the Gloucester's So Salty festival took over the Cape Ann Museum, the historic whaling city is cranking up the "schweet" this weekend.

Glosta's So Schweeeet! is the brainchild of Joey Ciaramitaro, co-owner of Capt. Joe and Sons Lobster Co. and the man behind the popular blog Good Morning Gloucester.

Inspired by Gloucester's So Salty and the annual Salem's So Sweet chocolate and ice sculpture festival, Ciaramitaro wants to drum up business in downtown Gloucester during a typically slow time of year.

"People just want a reason to get out and bring their families downtown," Ciaramitaro told WBZ NewsRadio. "There are so many great restaurants, retailers, and just great energy, but they just need a hook."

That hook is Glosta's So Schweeeet! More than two dozen restaurants and stores around the city are offering special promotions and prizes Saturday, rolling out the red carpet for interested shoppers.

"Deep discounts, special promotions. Some people are having raffles, but most are giving away something sweet, little candies or little prizes," Ciaramitaro said.

Participating retailers include Mark Adrian Shoes at 103 Main St., Dogtown Books at 132 Main St., Made with Luve at 220 Main St., Machaca Taco & Tequila Bar at 14 Rogers St., Castaways Vintage Cafe at 65 Main St., and Meat and Sweet Foods at 23 East Main St.
